Virginia State Police have said that they are not searching for any suspects in the stabbing of state Senator Creigh Deeds and death of his son by gunshot at their family home in Millboro, Virginia.

Authorities were called to the scene at 07:25 (12:25 GMT) and found Creigh Deeds, 55, suffering form multiple stab wounds to the head and chest, and his 24-year-old son, Gus, dead of a reportedly self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Creigh Deeds was taken by air ambulance to Virginia Health System Hospital where he is now in a fair condition.

Police are still determining a timeline for events and a motive for the violence, but have indicated that no-one else was at the property, and so are not looking for any third party actors.
