An investigation has been launched after two US security guards have been found dead on board the Maersk Alabama in the Seychelles.

The men, named as former Navy Seals Jeffrey Reynolds, 44, and Mark Kennedy, 44, were discovered in the cabin of the ship that was previously hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009, a situation dramatised on screen in the film Captain Phillips.

A post mortem has been scheduled to determine cause of the security contractors’ deaths, but Kevin N. Speers, a senior director for Maersk Line Limited, told CNN that they were “not related to vessel operations of their duties as security personnel”.
