A New York businessman is suing credit reporting agency Equifax, claiming that it falsely reported that he had no financial history because their systems do not recognise his name – “God”.

God Gazarov, 26, originally from Russia, claims that Equifax has refused to fix its software glitch preventing him from obtaining loans and other financial instruments that require credit checks according to a federal lawsuit filed in Brooklyn on Friday.

According to the New York Post, despite having credit scores of more than 720 with the two other major credit agencies, TransUnion and Experian, Gazarov said the Equifax snag prevented him from purchasing an Infiniti car last year.

Rather than change its software, Gazarov claims that one customer service representative even recommended for him to change his name to get around the issue.

After two years of correspondence with Equifax, Gazarov said that the company still refused to accept the legitimacy of his name and update their systems, and so he has resorted to the law.
