A suicide bomb attack was reportedly foiled in the Tunisian town of Sousse, with the would-be attacker chased from a hotel onto an open beach before blowing himself up.
The male attacker wearing a “bomb vest” was spotted close to the Riadh Palms hotel in the Mediterranean resort town at approximately 09:45 local time (08:45 GMT), and was chased away from the populated areas to an open beach before he blew himself up.
In a separate attack, security forces prevented a bomb attack on ex-President Habib Bouruiba’s tomb in Monastir, with police capturing the would-be bomber before he managed to detonate his explosive vest.
Tunisia has seen a rise in terrorist attacks since former dictator Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali was ousted from power in the 2011 uprising which catalysed the Arab Spring in much of the Arab world.
