A Swiss court has ordered a Russian billionaire to pay his former wife 4 billion Swiss francs (£2.7bn; $4.5bn) to settle their divorce battle.

Dmitry Rybolovlev, 58, has been fighting his wife of 23 years, Elena Rybolovleva, over her claim to his fortune and the terms of their divorce since 2008.

The Geneva court also reportedly gave Rybolovleva custody of the couple’s 13-year-old daughter Anna, in what has been variously described as the ‘most expensive divorce in history’.

Rybolovlev is a Russian businessman and investor, that has made his vast fortune in the potash industry, developing Uralkali into one of the world’s largest producers of the fertilizer in the wake of the break up of the Soviet Union and perestroika. He also owns the football club AS Monaco, which plays in the French Ligue 1.
