“Western forces” are reported to have launched a pre-dawn raid on an al-Shabab base at Barawe in southern Somalia.

No-one has admitted making the raid, but the BBC are reporting al-Shabab militants describing “white soldiers”, with both the US and France carrying out similar raids in Somalia in recent years.

Local media are reporting that western soldiers landed by helicopter on the beach at Barawe before attacking a two-storey house widely believed to be an al-Shabab headquarters. Heavy gunfire awoke Barawe residents before morning prayers and reportedly lasted 10-15 minutes, leaving on al-Shabab fighter dead.

It is unclear whether the raid is linked with the al-Shabab attack on the Westgate mall in Nairobi on 21st September which left 67 people dead and more than 30 still unaccounted for.

  1. Hi,
Somalia: Foreign military raid al-Shabaab headquarters. “And isn’t it ironic… don’t you think” Somalia probably the poorest land on this planet and the “Petri dish” of evil. We should think about giving them more than bullets.
