A Metro train derailment in Moscow has left 19 people dead and a further 120 injured.

The accident happened during morning rush hour, when a Metro train braked abruptly and skidded off the rails between two stations, near Park Pobedy in the west of the city.

In total over 1,100 people were evacuated from the train as emergency services attempted to access those that were badly injured in the tunnels 84m below the ground.

The Metro line affected runs all the way through Moscow with 22 stations and is used by around 800,000 people per day.

Pictures posted to Twitter and Instagram appeared to show some of the survivors walking along the tunnels to safety after the crash.
