A British man faces a murder charge in Oslo, Norway, after allegedly convincing a woman to submerge her one-year-old daughter under water during a Skype conversation.
Ammaz Qureshi, 35, is claimed to have ordered his lover Yasmin Chaudry, 28, to punish her daughter for interrupting their Skype conversion by submerging her head in a bucket of water in May 2010. He is then alleged to have watched the baby girl’s head to be held under water twice before she lost consciousness.
Chaudry called emergency services, explaining to them that the baby had fallen into the bucket of water, but the child died in hospital the next day.
Chaudry has pleaded guilty to charges of child abuse, but denies murder.
Qureshi has been held in custody in Oslo since being extradited to Norway over the charges last year, but denies the charges and claims to be confused how he could be accused of a crime in a country he had never visited.
