Suspected Islamist rebels affiliated with Boko Haram have kidnapped eight teenage girls from a village in north-east Nigeria.
The girls, aged between 12 and 15 were reported to have been abducted on Monday night from the village of Warabe, and driven away in army-coloured trucks along with stolen livestock and food, according to the Guardian.
These new kidnapping come after news that the group, which claims to be fighting for a pure Islamic state and an end to Westernisation, announced that they plan to sell the 200 schoolgirls they captured last month.
In a video obtained by AFP, the group’s leader Abubakar Shekau admitted on Monday that it was Boko Haram that abducted the girls and said that he would “sell them in the marketplace”.
