Sherpas in Nepal are reported to have come to an agreement and will resume guiding climbers on Mount Everest following an avalanche which left 16 dead.

Sherpas had threatened to strike over compensation for the families for lost guides and improved working conditions after climbs were halted following last Friday’s deadly avalanche, which was the deadliest mountaineering accident on the peak.

They claimed that Nepal’s government was taking large fees from the foreign climbing expiditions, but not sharing this income with the guides or their families.

The uncertainty of future climbs had meant that half of the teams as Base Camp have decided to call of their climbs and descend.

However, Euronews reports that an agreement has been reached between the parties during crisis talks, and climbing on Everest is set to resume.
