The search area for the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 has expanded to include the Indian Ocean after the US confirmed that they had “new information” on the plane’s location.
White House spokesman Jay Carney said at a briefing:
It’s my understanding that based on some new information that’s not necessarily conclusive, but new information, an additional search area may be opened in the Indian Ocean
This vague news from the US comes after the Chinese satellite images purporting to show three possible sites of the wreckage were found to be inaccurate, with nothing found by search teams sent to the locations.
After a five day search, which has included 40 aircraft and 43 ships, none of the search teams have yet found any sign of the wreckage of the missing plane, which disappeared shortly after leaving Kuala Lumpur last Friday carrying 239 people.
As the search has turned increasingly desperate, relatives of those missing have become increasingly angry at the handling of the situation, with some reported to have thrown water bottles at Malaysian Airlines representatives, and others threatening to sue the Malaysian government.
