A grenade was thrown at British tourists in Mombasa, but failed to explode according to local police.

The man who threw the grenade reportedly fled the scene in the Kenyan capital and has not yet been found, but Kenya’s anti-terror squad are investigating the incident after the driver reported it to police.

The tourists were driving through the Likoni district of the city on their way from the Indian Ocean coastal resort of Diani to the Maasai Mara national park for a wildlife safari.

It is currently unknown why the tourists were targeted, and no group has claimed responsibility for the failed attack.

The grenade was safely detonated by a bomb-disposal squad.
