At least 130 migrants from Africa have been found dead, with many more missing after the boat carrying them to Europe caught fire and then capsized off the coast of Lampedusa.

Passengers and crew on reportedly all moved onto one side of the boat after a fire started to take over the vessel, causing the boat to capsize – throwing everyone in the water. More than 90 bodies have been found in the water, with a further 40 discovered dead within the wreckage. 150 people were rescued, but there remain a large number of people missing from the estimated 500 on board the boat.

The UNHCR has said the majority of those on board were fleeing Eritrea and Somalia, with the boat believed to have left from Libya.
