Iran has dispatched warships to travel close to US territorial waters in a move to protest against the continued US naval presence in the Persian Gulf.
Afshin Rezayee Haddad, Admiral of Iran’s Northern Navy Fleet, was reported by the Itranian Fars news Agency as saying the naval movement sent “a message” to the US, continuing:
“The Iranian Army’s naval fleets have already started their voyage towards the Atlantic Ocean via the waters near South Africa”
Discussing the Iranian policy towards the US in Tehran earlier today, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Brigadier General Massoud Jazayeri said:
Resistance against the US is an unchangeable principle for protecting and safeguarding the Islamic Revolution
There are few details about which ships will make up the Iranian fleet dispatched towards the US, but there were reports last year of Iran looking to launch its new “Lavan” destroyer-class vessels, which could make up a proportion of the number.
