The team searching for a missing 12-year-old boy snatched by a crocodile have reportedly found human remains near the waterhole where he was swimming in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The boy was swimming in Kakadu National Park, when he and a friend were attacked by a saltwater crocodile. The friend escaped with just a bite wound, but the boy was snatched and dragged away by the animal.
The search for the boy had been made more difficult because of recent flooding in the area, but Acting Commander Michael White of the Northern Command believes that the search may now be over with the discovery of the remains.
DNA testing will be used to confirm the identity of the remains, but the location of the discovery implies that they may well be of the missing boy.
The children were reportedly swimming in a restricted area, with warnings saying “croc risk, do not swim here, do not enter” due to the danger posed by the saltwater crocodiles, which can grow up to 5.8m tall.
