A 116m tower block has been brought down with controlled explosives in Frankfurt, the German financial capital.
The demolition of the university tower, which was built in 1972, took nearly a tonne of explosives (950kg), and was witnessed by an estimated 30,000 spectators who watched from 250m away.
The building was originally planned to have been brought down slowly, but residents complained of prolonged noise disruption and a decision was made to bring the building down with explosives instead.
Two new offices are due to be built on the site of the tower, with the university moving operations to a new campus last year.
