Nearly 300 people were arrested in Paris after far-right groups clashed with riot police at a protest against gay marriage.
Organisers claim that nearly a million people turned out on the streets of Paris on Sunday evening to protest against new equality laws in France that allow for same-sex couples to get married. Most of the protest march continued peacefully until later in the evening when violence erupted with people throwing rocks and smoke bombs, and police using tear gas in an attempt to suppress the unrest. The violence ended with 36 injuries and 293 arrests including 100 known far-right activists.
The violence was mostly aimed at the police and others sectors of the establishment, but some photo-journalists were also attacked by rioters as shown in this video:
