Catalan police have arrested a man in relation to the allegedly racially motivated stabbing of five people in the town of Lleida on Monday.

A 21-year-old medical student gave himself up to police on Tuesday evening, after a manhunt was launched to find him following the stabbing of five people in broad daylight on Monday.

One of the people attacked was Spanish, but the others were from Pakistan, South America, China, and Morocco, and La Vanguardia reports that the suspect will be charged with carrying out a racist and xenophobic attack.

The Local reports that the suspect has previously been charged with a racist attack in his home city of Logroño, where several members of the far right Nueva Época group attacked a Colombian man.
