An Italian mobster is appealing against a murder conviction of another gangster, claiming that the evidence against him is fabricated because of a photograph featuring Chelsea F.C. manager José Mourinho.

Cesare Pagano was convicted of murdering Carmine Amoruso in 2006 in Naples, with some of the evidence used to prosecute him reported to have come from informants who heard him boasting about the murder with his associate Rito Calzone soon afterwards.

However, Pagano has won the right to appeal because of various evidence, including hotel receipts and plane tickets showed that Calzone was in Barcelona when the conversation was alleged to have occurred. Another piece of evidence proving Calzone’s whereabouts were photographs of him posing with José Mourinho, who was then manager of Portugal’s national side, according to AFP.

The court is expected to reach a verdict on the appeal next month.
