In his latest gaffe, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has claimed that Germans deny the existence of Nazi concentration camps during the Second World War, according to Deutsche Welle.

The politician, who was recently sentenced to work in a retirement home for tax fraud, was presenting the European Parliament election candidates for his Forza Italia party when he said:

“The Germans, for them, concentration camps never existed.”

He made the comment when mentioning a previous gaffe in which he compared European Parliament president Martin Schulz to a concentration camp guard in 2003.

Berlusconi is banned from running in the elections because of his recent tax fraud conviction, but still leads the Forza Italia political party, which is part of the European People’s Party (EPP) unbrella group.
