One woman has been left dead and two other people injured after a machete attack by a Syrian asylum seeker in Reutlingen on Sunday.

Police say a 21-year-old Syrian man was seen arguing with the 45-year-old Polish victim before the attack, and that the incident was most likely a “crime of passion”.

The suspect and victim are reported to have known each other and worked at the same Turkish restaurant.

Police say the man, who has been involved in previous violent incidents, is believed to have acted alone and has been arrested.

There is no indication that the attack was politically motivated or that the suspect had links to Islamic State.

The machete attack comes in the wake of a shooting rampage in Munich on Friday, where a gunman killed nine people and injured many more before turning the gun on himself.
