The mayor of a French village has been castrated and murdered by a man who suspected he was having an affair with his girlfriend.
Dominique Leboucher, 55, was castrated and then stabbed in the neck by a 39-year-old electrician and father of two, who then killed himself in the town of Bretteville-le-Rabet in the northern Calvados region of France.
Leboucher’s widow does not believe that her husband was cheating on her.
The killer, who the prosecutor described as “clearly very much in love” with his girlfriend, had no previous criminal convictions.
The gruesome murder has caused horror and shock throughout the 250-strong village, according to Sky News.
Leboucher had been elected as mayor in March.
