Fourteen people have been wounded, one seriously, in a knife attack on a public bus in the northern German city of Lübeck.

Police in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein said no-one was injured in the incident and a suspect has been taken into custody.

It appears that a police car was near to the scene and officers were able to respond quickly to the incident and apprehend the attacker.

State police tweeted: “Nobody was killed. The perpetrator was overpowered and is now in police custody.”

The area around a bus stop in the Kücknitz neighbourhood remains sealed off while investigators examine the scene.

The motive of the attacker and details of exactly what happened on board the bus remain unclear.
