At least six people have died after a ferry carrying 200-350 people capsized during a storm in a river in Bangladesh.

The MV Miraj-4 ferry overturned in high winds in the Meghna river in the Munshiganj district at around 15.30 local time 10.30 BST), with authorities expecting the death toll to rise as they pull more bodies from the water.

Rescue teams have yet to locate the exact location of the vessel underwater, according to the BBC.

Overcrowding and lax safety standards are a common complaint on Bangladesh’s ferry network that connects many of the country’s towns and cities, with authorities often criticised over the issue.
