Police in Australia have found human remains inside the stomach of a saltwater crocodile that is thought to have attacked a man out fishing with his family on Saturday afternoon.

The 62-year-old man was attacked and taken in a billabong at Kakadu National Park, near Cooinda in Australia’s Northern Territory, with his wife and daughter reportedly having to drive for two hours to raise the alarm, as there is no mobile reception in the remote area.

Police found and shot the five-metre crocodile around 1.5km away from where the attack took place, and found human remains within the animal’s stomach, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The remains have not yet been identified and have been sent for forensic examination.
