A British sniper killed six Taliban fighters in Afghanistan with a single bullet, according to the Ministry of Defence (MoD).
A lance corporal from the Coldstream Guards managed to strike a suicide bomber’s vest trigger from 850m in Kakaran, southern Afghanistan in December 2013. The shot caused the suicide vest to explode, killing five other Taliban fighters.
Lt Col Richard Slack told the Daily Telegraph that after the blast there was a pause on the radio before the sniper said:
“I think I’ve just shot a suicide bomber. The rest of them were killed in the blast.”
This sharpshooting, by the same marksman that shot a machine-gunner from 1,340m on his first action on tour, prevented a major attack on British forces, as there was a second suicide vest found nearby.
