An elderly man has died trying to move a fallen tree from power lines near Chippenham in Wiltshire as 160 km/h winds and heavy rains cause misery across the country.
Wiltshire Police were responding to reports of a fallen tree having brought down power cables in Bremhill, Calne, at around 15:20, when reports of a man injured at the scene came in.
An ambulance also attended the incident, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene from apparent electrocution.
Wiltshire Police said:
“His next of kin have been informed and early indication is that the man was attempting to clear the tree and has been electrocuted. He was in his 70s.”
