The Met Office has issued a red warning for extreme weather conditions in Scotland, as heavy snow causes disruption across the UK for the second day.

The warning covers the central belt of Scotland, including both Edinburgh and Glasgow, and forecasts a risks to life with heavy snow from 15:00 GMT.

Cancellations and long delays are expected to affect buses, trains, and other transport services throughout the day.

Police recommend staying off the roads, with motorists reporting poor visibility and hazardous conditions throughout the UK.

A number of schools and businesses have been forced to close for the day, after temperatures plummeted to as low as -12C overnight in some areas.

The freezing temperatures are expected to continue until Friday, with the Met office sharing a Tweet showing what Britons should expect over the coming three days.
