A 16-year-old boy has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting to stabbing to death his teacher.

Will Cornick pleaded guilty to the murder of the 61-year-old Ann Maguire at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds in April.

Maguire had worked at the school for 40 years and was due to retire when she was stabbed to death in front of a classroom of students.

The prosecutor told Leeds Crown Court how Cornick exchanged messages with a friend on Facebook before the attack, discussing how he hated the teacher and how he would “brutally” kill her so that he would spend the rest of his life in jail so as not to have to worry about life or money.
