A primary school told a young girl that she could not go to her grandfather’s funeral.
Hansbury’s Farm Primary School in Tamworth, Staffordshire, mistakenly told 10-year-old Demi Hodge’s parents that they could not take their daughter out of school as it was not an “exceptional circumstance”, according to the Daily Star.
Head teacher Peter Hollis also reportedly warned Gaynor and Leigh Hodge that they could face a £1,000 fine if their daughter was taken out of school.
However, the couple ignored the advice and took their daughter to the funeral.
The school has since admitted their mistake, and said that they blocked the absence request because they thought it was for a holiday and not a funeral.
