A stand-off an HMP Northumberland has reportedly come to an end, with inmates now returned to their cells.

A “major incident” occurred on Friday evening, where around 50 inmates refused to go back to their cells at around 19:30 GMT, and took over a wing at the category C prison, which houses sex offenders amongst other criminals.

There were no reports of injuries, although there was a ‘stand-off’ overnight, which Sodexo, which runs the prison, described as a “disturbance” which has now been “resolved”. The company has said that they will now launch an investigation into the incident.
