Police searching for the missing York St John university student Megan Roberts have recovered the body of a woman from the River Ouse, about five miles from where Roberts was last seen.
A member of the public walking in the area spotted the body near the Ship Inn at Acaster Malbis and called the police at 15:27 on Sunday afternoon.
North Yorkshire Police said:
Formal identification has not yet been completed, therefore we cannot confirm the identity of the deceased at this stage.
The family of Megan Roberts have been informed of the discovery.
Megan, 20, from Wetherby, disappeared at around 02:00 on Thursday 23 January after a night out with friends at Popworld in York city centre. She is shown on CCTV leaving the bar and then soon afterwards at Lendal Bridge.
