Police are investigating possible links between the sudden and unexplained death of a 29-year-old man in Cardiff and the NekNominate drinking game that continues to spread rapidly through social media.

South Wales Police have said that they are waiting for post-mortem results, but have received information about the man taking part in the NekNominate drinking game, which involves people filming themselves downing a drink as quickly as they can, before posting the video to social media and nominating one or more of their friends to do the same.

In a statement, South Wales Police said

We are investigating the sudden and unexplained death of a 29-year-old man from Rumney, Cardiff during the early hours of February 9.

Officers investigating his death on behalf of HM Coroner have received information regarding the so-called neck and nominate game.

Inquiries are continuing and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

This investigation comes just days after the game was blamed for two deaths of young people in Ireland.
