Police in Blackpool have charged a man in connection with the murder of a two-year-old girl, who died from her injuries on Saturday.

Connor Gibson, 23, will appear at Blackpool Magistrates Court on Monday for the murder of Kasey Hambleton.

The toddler was found in an “unresponsive” state by police called to an address on Granby Road in Blackpool on Saturday, with the girl rushed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Still in a critical condition, she was later airlifted to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where she died of her injuries.

Police also arrested a 23-year-old woman in connection with the murder, who has been released on bail until 8 July.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Gilbert from Lancashire Constabulary’s Force Major Investigation Team said:

“This is a terribly tragic incident where a little girl has sadly lost her fight for life and I am determined to find out exactly what has happened to her and how she has come to acquire injuries so serious that they have proven fatal.

I personally encourage anyone who may have any information about little Kasey and the days leading up to her death to come forward to help us in what has now developed into a murder investigation.”

Police have asked anyone with any information about this incident to contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log number LC-20140410-0350, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
