Former Conservative MP and deputy speaker of the House of Commons Nigel Evans has been cleared on charges of rape and sexual assault.

Evans, 56, who denied all the charges, was found not guilty on the charges of rape, two counts of indecent assault, and seven counts attempted sexual assault against young men between 2003 and 2013 at Preston Crown Court.

Evans resigned as deputy speaker after he was charged in September 2013 to avoid becoming a distraction to the party.
