The Ministry of Defence (MoD) have released photographs of the Russian bombers that were turned away from entering British airspace on Wednesday.

RAF Typhoons were scrambled from RAF Leuchars, near Dundee, to intercept two unidentified aircraft flying near to British airspace.

The aircraft were quickly identified as Russian Tu 95 “Bear” bombers, believed to be on a routine exercise, and the Typhoons escorted them away form UK airspace.

Such incidents are relatively common, but this week comes as tensions continue to rise between Russia and the West, where the US is blaming Russia for destabilising eastern Ukraine, and the Russia sees the US as supporting an illegitimate government in Kiev.
