A Met policeman has admitted to misconduct in public office over the “plebgate” affair and will offer to resign over the incident.
PC Keith Wallis, 53, falsely claimed to have witnessed a row between Andrew Mitchell and a police officer at the gates to Downing Street in September 2012.
Whilst inquiries have not got to the bottom of exactly what was said in the heated exchange, and as to whether Mitchell did call the police officer a “pleb”, Wallis has admitted that he did not witness the exchange.
Wallis has been bailed and will be sentenced on 6th February pending psychiatric reports.
Mitchell has said that he is pleased that “justice had been done” after Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe apologised to him about the affair.
