The official opening ceremony may not be until Friday evening, but the sport of the 2012 Olympic games kicked off in Cardiff Millennium Stadium with women’s football and a 1-0 win for Team GB over New Zealand. But it was not all smooth sailing for London 2012 as a mistake by the team up at Glasgow’s Hampton Park led to the screen graphics showing the South Korean Flag for the North Korean team, which resulted in them walking off and delaying the start of the game against Columbia.

There were also some other teething problems as the games starts to get going and tourists flood to London. The cable car system that links some Olympic venues in East London broke down leaving some passengers suspended above the city for a brief period.

Inside the Olympic Park, organisers have noticed that the curved roof in the Aquatic Centre will mean hundreds of people may not be able to see some of the action in the diving events, with ticket holders being offered refunds

Luckily, however, there was no disruption at Heathrow as immigration and passport staff strike scheduled for today has been called off by the PCS union.
