Sources have identified who they believe to be the man shown alongside the execution of five alleged “British spies” in the latest Islamic State propaganda video as British-born Siddhartha Dhar.

The intelligence services say they are investigating the possibility that Dhar is the man in the video, but there is no official confirmation.

A former associate of Dhar identified Dhar as the man in the video, and in an interview with the BBC, Dhar’s sister said she thought the voice from the video “resembled” that of her brother.

Dhar, also known as Abu Rumaysah, was born to Hindu parents, but converted to Islam in London and joined banned Salafi jihadi group al-Muhajiroun.

In 2014, the father-of-four from Walthamstow in east London was arrested on suspicion of encouraging terrorism, but fled to Syria in 2014 while on bail.
