London’s Oxford Circus tube station has reopened after police were unable to find any evidence of an attacker or victim despite reports of shots being fired.
The Met Police have stood down their response to the earlier reports of gunfire, and said that those sheltering in nearby buildings are free to leave the area. Additional officers will remain on duty in the West End to reassure the public.
On Twitter, police said:
“We have not located any trace of suspects, evidence of shots fired or casualties.”
Earlier the police had sai, the police said:
“Police were called at 16:38hrs on Friday, 24 November to a number of reports of shots fired on Oxford Street and underground at Oxford Circus tube station.
“Police have responded as if the incident is terrorist related. Armed and unarmed officers are on scene and dealing along with colleagues from British Transport Police.”
It is currently unclear what sparked the panic at the station.
