Hundreds of homes were evacuated as the bomb squad carried out a number of controlled explosions in Bristol.
Police were alerted to a suspicious fuel soaked car on in Cassell Road, Fishponds at around 04:00 on Saturday morning.
460 homes within a 200m exclusion zone were evacuated, while a series of controlled explosions were carried out by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
Chief Superintendent of Avon and Somerset Constabulary Geoff Spicer said:
“The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team has finished its examination of the car and I am pleased to report that no explosives were found and the scene is safe.
“There is however an ongoing police investigation into this incident and there will be a continued police presence in the Cassell Road area while all necessary enquiries are carried out.”
He continued:
“As the investigation is continuing, I would encourage anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the Cassell Road area yesterday evening, or the early hours of this morning, to come forward.”
Residents have now been allowed to return to their homes.
