HMV went into administration recently, continuing the trend of high street shops in the UK having financial trouble. Since that announcement HMV has had a number of acquisition offers from other companies and private equity groups.
In order to make the company more attractive to these buyers, however, HMV is making 190 redundancies in head office and regional distribution centres, with the firing starting today. During a mass meeting at HMV HQ, one member of staff who was fired had access to the HMV corporate twitter feed @HMVtweets, publishing their feelings to the world in real-time.
More than 60 people were fired at once according to the tweets, which were rapidly deleted once those higher up in the company found out, but we saved them for posterity.
