An elderly man has been left dead after a gun was discharged at a hunting shop in Surrey.

A customer, believed to be in his 80s, was reportedly holding the gun at around 09:40 this morning when it went off at John Powell Gun Makers on Church Street in Reigate. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from CID are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death assisted by local officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team who are also carrying out a number of enquiries in the area.

Although the investigation is still in the early stages, police have said that there is nothing to suggest there is any threat to the general public or any third party involvement at this time.
