One man has been killed and 13 people left injured after a car collided with a double-decker bus in the early hours of this morning in east London.

A blue Audi collided with an N38 night bus at the Lea Bridge Road junction with Essex Wharf in Clapton at around 02:20.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, with the three passengers injured and taken to hospital. The passenger in the front seat is reported to be a critical condition, while the back seat passengers are considered stable.

10 people aboard the bus also sustained minor injuries, with the walking wounded transported to a nearby hospital on another bus laid on by Transport for London.

A police helicopter and a number of police cars were at the scene, investigating the accident this morning befor the debris was cleared from the street.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident are asked to call the police non-emergency line on 101.
