Former BBC Radio DJ Dave Lee Travis has been given a three month sentence, suspended for three years, for the 1995 indecent assault of a woman, at Southwark Crown Court.

The 69-year-old former Top Of The Pops presenter whose real name is David Griffin was found guilty of an “intentional and unpleasant assault” on a female researcher working on the Mrs Merton Show. He cornered the 22-year-old woman in a corridor at the television studio where the programme was being filmed and squeezed her breast for 10-15 seconds after describing her “poor little lungs”.

The victim, who chose to remain anonymous, said that she was “too paralysed with fear to confront” her assailant after the attack, and remembering the incident still made her feel like a “scared, vulnerable young woman”. She said she had no plans to claim compensation, but just wanted to “tell the truth” about the attack.

The radio personality was also cleared with relation to a charge of indecent assault from 1990 and a sexual assault in 2008. He was being retried for these charges after jurors could not reach a verdict at his trial earlier this year where he was cleared of 12 other charges of indecent assault.

Travis said he was “mortified” about his conviction.
