Daily Mail headline on immigration

The Daily Mail is free to talk about the Marxist history of Ralph Miliband, and how his beliefs may have had an impact on his son who now leads the Labour Party. However, it is difficult to publish a story about how Ed Miliband’s father “hated Britain” for being a socialist, without in the same breath discussing how the history of the Daily Mail involves support for fascism in Britain, and how that newspaper continues to show its hatred of Britain to this day.

The former Chairman of Daily Mail and General Trust plc, Harold Harmsworth, and direct relation to the current holder of that title, famously wrote an article entitled “Hurrah for the Blackshirts” in 1934 – demonstrating his support for Oswald Mosley and his “Conservative doctrine”. He was also widely considered to be a friend of Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler, with whom Britain went to war.

Now, I would agree with Roy Greenslade in believing that the actions and beliefs of a man who has long since died should not be used to define the Mail. However, if our lineage and parents defines all of us, as the Mail believes it does Ed Miliband, then the Mail will find itself in the worst of company.

The Daily Mail of the 1930s would have hated what Britain has become – a multicultural country where Christianity is on the decline, a socialised economy and health service that is the envy of many of the world, and deep roots within Europe. However, it is not just the Mail of the 1930s that would hate this country, the Daily Mail of 2013 also hates it with a vitriolic passion.

Every day the Mail prints an article about how immigrants have ruined this country; how young people are workshy; how Christians are being persecuted by the “political correctness brigade”; and how the internet is somehow breaking down family values.

Maybe it is the Daily Mail which really hates Britain.

  1. Wrong! Mr Milliband took the bait and will pay the price for looking like a 17 year old who cant take it on the chin. He needs to man up and just laugh it off even if he was annoyed by it. By acting like this he is providing oxygen to this VERY popular newspaper. Popular for a damned good reason as well. Millions of people share its views.

  2. Daily Mail is a fascist rag. They’ve shot themselves in the foot by reminding everyone of their Nazi sympathies. Stupid hypocrites.
