Social workers have taken a five-year-old girl weighing more than 10 stone into care.
According to the Sunday Times, a child weighing 10st 10lb (68kg) was taken into care in Newport, south Wales last summer.
A year later the girl is reported to have lost more than two stone, but at 8 stone, the girl’s body mass index (BMI) was still around double that of a healthy girl of the same age.
The plight of the girl was discovered through a freedom of information (FOI) request, but the local council has not given out any identifying information about the child, but said that the decision to take her from her parents was based purely on her obesity.
