CCTV images have been released by Scotland Yard of a moped gang attempting a “smash and grab” raid a luxury jewel shop during a busy morning in central London.
Six robbers armed with an axe, a sledgehammer, and possibly a handgun, attempted to rob Watches of Switzerland on Bond Street at around 11:05 on Monday.
The men, who were riding three mopeds, rammed the door of the shop with one member spraying people with ammonia, leaving one security guard needing hospital treatment according to the Evening Standard.
Quick-thinking staff inside the shop closed the security shutters before the gang could steal any luxury items inside, although police said the damage to the shop would cost several thousands of pounds to repair.
