A four-month-old baby boy has been killed and his 22-month-old brother seriously injured after a dog attack in Colchester.
The surviving child was left with “life-changing injuries” and his mother was also bitten by the dog, Essex Police said.
Police were called to the junction of Tara Close and Harwich Road at 15:10 BST on Thursday following reports a young child had been bitten by a dog.
Those injured were rushed to Colchester General Hospital and later transferred to a specialist unit, but the baby later died from his wounds.
Police have not released the breed of the dog involved in the attack, but said it had been put down “with the consent of the owner”.
No-one has been arrested in relation to the “tragic incident”.
The attack comes two months after another fatal dog attack in Essex, where a three-year-old boy was killed by an American bulldog.
