In my head, pop music heralding from Japan (J-Pop) has always sat somewhere near to K-Pop in cutesy, infantilising oddness. There are plenty of great Japanese bands and producers out there, but the pop scene has always been somewhat of a mystery to me. And then came Cuushe.
Maybe it’s her Berlin influences, or maybe she just writes such perfect, bliss-filled electronica that all geography dissolves beside her. Whatever it is, I Love You from her upcoming and yet-to-be-named debut record due for release on Tokyo-based Flau on July 8th is a delight of luxurious textures and upbeat grooves.
